June 3 (SeeNews) - Bulgaria's consolidated budget was in surplus of 596.6 million levs ($331 million/305 million euro) for the first four months of 2024, equal to 0.3% of the forecast gross domestic product (GDP) for the year, the finance ministry said.

In the same period a year earlier, Bulgaria's consolidated budget was in deficit of some 1.1 billion levs.

Consolidated budget expenditure amounted to 23.4 billion levs as of the end of April, compared to 20.9 million levs a year earlier, the ministry said in a statement on Friday. The rise was primarily due to higher pension payments and personnel costs.

Consolidated budget revenue leapt by 14.8% year-on-year to some 22.8 billion levs in January-April, while revenue from collected tax payments added 8% to 17.3 billion levs.

At the end of April, Bulgaria received a one-off income of 660 million levs from the Bulgarian National Bank, formed by the excess of revenue over expenditure for 2023, the ministry noted.
