Bulgaria’s Black Sea Port of Varna 2008 Revenue Rises 57.3% to 25.5 Mln Euro – Media

December 23 (SeeNews) - The revenue of Bulgaria’s Black Sea port of Varna reached an estimated 50 million levs ($35.8 million/25.5 million euro) this year, 57.3% up from 2007, thanks to 12 million levs investments in capacity increase, equipment and infrastructure upgrade, local Pari daily reported on Tuesday.

The port’s net profit reached 2.5 million levs this year, Pari quoted the port's executive director Danail Papazov as saying. He did not provide comparative figures.

Papazov added that by the end of the year the port will handle a total of 8.0 million tonnes of cargo, up by 18%.

Next year the port will start the construction of a container terminal, which will further boost its performance, Papazov was quoted as saying.

The port of Varna is one of Bulgaria's key sea ports, along with Burgas.
