Bulgaria's annual inflation slows to 2.4% in April

May 15 (SeeNews) - Bulgaria's consumer prices rose by 2.4% year-on-year in April, following a 3% annual climb in March, the National Statistical Institute (NSI) said on Wednesday.

In monthly comparison terms, consumer prices went down 0.3% last month after a growth of 0.2% in March, NSI said in a monthly report.

Compared to the previous month, prices in April declined the most in recreation and culture, by 5.9%, and communications with a 2.1% fall. In contrast, monthly price increases were recorded in clothing and footwear, at 6.8%, transport, at 1%, and alcoholic beverages and tobacco, at 0.8%.

Bulgaria's inflation rate since the beginning of the year amounted to 0.7%, while the average annual inflation for the past 12 months was 5.7%, NSI data showed.

Annual inflation under the Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (HICP), which allows comparison on the same terms among all EU member states, decelerated to 2.5% in April from 3.1% in March. On a monthly comparison basis, EU-harmonised consumer prices inched down 0.1% last month after adding 0.2% in March.
