October 10 (SeeNews) - Bulgaria's thermal power plant (TPP) AES Galabovo produced over 2.83 million MWh of electricity in the first nine months of the year, the plant's owner AES Bulgaria, a unit of U.S.-based energy conglomerate AES Corporation, said on Monday.

The plant's output in the January-September period covered on average 10% of domestic consumption, AES Bulgaria told SeeNews in an emailed statement.

In September alone, the lignite-fired power plant produced 187,699 MWh of electricity. This was some 39% less than the August output, according to earlier information from the company.

"TPP AES Galabovo complies with the legal requirement to keep in stock necessary quantities of coal and raw materials and usually its stocks exceed the quantities that the legislator foresees," a company spokesperson told SeeNews.

The power plant will provide an update on its stocks and level of preparedness for the upcoming heating season towards the end of October.

US-based energy conglomerate AES Corporation purchased a majority stake in Bulgaria's Maritsa East 1 power plant in 1999, ten years later renaming it AES Galabovo. AES completed the full acquisition of the plant from Ireland's Consolidated Continental Commerce Limited (3C) in 2005.
