October 4 (SeeNews) - The combined net profit of non-life insurance companies in Bulgaria decreased to 125.9 million levs ($63.9 million/64.4 million euro) in the first half of 2022 from 132.1 million levs a year earlier, the country's financial regulator said on Tuesday.
In contrast, gross written premiums (GWP) grew to 1.48 billion levs at the end of June from 1.34 billion levs a year earlier, the Financial Supervision Commission (FSC) said in a data release.
There were 23 non-life insurance companies active in Bulgaria at the end of June.
With gross premiums of 227.7 million levs, Euroins was the biggest player on the Bulgarian insurance market. It was followed by Lev Ins with gross premiums of 206 million levs. The two companies had market shares of 15.42% and 13.96%, respectively, at the end of June.
Bulstrad Life Vienna Insurance Group, with 176.7 million levs in GWP, and DZI-General Insurance with 148.4 million levs, had market shares of 11.97% and 10.05%, respectively.
The total assets of the non-life insurers in Bulgaria rose to 5.45 billion levs at the end of June from 5.19 billion levs a year earlier.
