SOFIA (Bulgaria), December 30 (SeeNews) – The Bulgarian energy regulator said on Monday it has cut household electricity prices as of January 1, 2014, which will affect the customers of the three power distributors operating in the country.

Bulgarian energy regulator cuts electricity prices for households from Jan 1

The change will have an effect on the day-time and night-time rates of CEZ Electro Bulgaria [BUL:1CZ], Energo Pro-Sales [BUL:4ES] and EVN Bulgaria, a decision published on the website of the State Energy and Water Regulatory Commission (SEWRC) indicated.

Customers of Bulgaria’s CEZ will see their day-time tariff bills decrease to 0.14949 levs ($0.105/0.0076 euro) per kilowatt-hours (kWh) and their nigh-time rates drop to 0.08508 levs.

The new rates of EVN Bulgaria will decrease to 0.15327 levs per kWh for day-time electricity consumption and 0.08676 levs per kWh for night-time tariffs.

Energo Pro-Sales’s new price for day-time tariff for household users as of the beginning of 2014 will decline to 0.15958 levs per kWh while night-time rates will drop to 0.08862 levs per kWh.

This has been the third electricity price decrease in Bulgaria this year as the energy regulator reduced electricity bills in March and August.

Earlier this year, Bulgarians protested against the inflated electricity bills, which caused the resignation of the previous government.
