The biggest Bulgarian bank by assets at the end of November was UniCredit Bulbank, the Bulgarian unit of Italian banking group UniCredit, formed after the merger of its domestic units, Bulbank, HVB Bank Biochim and Hebros Bank. The runner-up was DSK Bank, owned by Hungarian banking group OTP, followed by United Bulgarian Bank, majority-owned by the National Bank of Greece.
Bulgaria has 24 domestically-registered banks and six branches of foreign lenders.
