Bulgarian banks' combined net profit falls in Jan-July

September 1 (SeeNews) - The combined net profit of banks operating in Bulgaria fell to 790.4 million levs ($480.5 million/403.3 million euro) for the January-July period, from 909 million levs a year earlier, the country's central bank said.

The banks' interest income for the seven-month period decreased to 1.79 billion levs from 1.95 billion levs in the same period last year, while fee and commission income grew to 655.5 million levs, from 604 million levs in the corresponding period of 2016, Bulgarian National Bank (BNB) data shows.

The banking sector's total seven-month net operating revenue fell to 2.19 billion levs in the period under review, from 2.4 billion levs in the same period last year.

The banks' total assets increased to 93.4 billion levs at the end of July, from 89.4 billion levs a year earlier.

Twenty-two banks and five branches of foreign banks operate in Bulgaria.
