The terminal is expected to be completed by 2020, the ministry said in a press release.

Some 4.0 million levs ($2.5 million/2.0 million euro) of EU funds provided under the operational programme Transport will be invested in preparatory works on the project.

Earlier on Thursday, a 6.0 million lev river shipping information centre opened in Ruse as part of a project for the development of an information system for the Bulgarian section of the river.

Bulgaria and Romania are preparing a joint project for which they will seek EU financing under the Connecting Europe Facility, transport minister Ivaylo Moskovski was quoted as saying in the press release. The Bulgarian part of the project is estimated to cost some 160 million levs, he added without disclosing details.
