BEH will call an open tender to choose a consultant at the end of January, it said in a statement.

The executive director of BEH (www.bgenh.bg), Galina Tosheva, said in October the project will need to be reviewed and restructured, a process that will take about 18 months, following the pullout of the strategic investor, Germany's RWE, over lack of success in packaging the project financially and failure to sign a final agreement with the building contractor.

RWE and Bulgarian power grid operator NEK, a unit of BEH, were teamed up in a 49:51 joint venture for the Belene project.
