September 21 (SeeNews) - Bulgaria and Romania submitted to the European Commission a proposal for a feasibility study for the construction of a second bridge over the Danube between Ruse and Giurgiu, the transport ministry in Sofia said on Thursday.
The Commission should decide in the beginning of 2024 whether it will finance the project, the transport ministry said in a press release. The two countries will then need to decide by the end of 2026 on the exact location and financing mechanism of the facility.
Bulgaria will contribute 1.4 million euro ($1.5 million) to the project, with up to 50% expected to be covered by EU grants under the Connecting Europe Facility, the ministry added.
Bulgaria and Romania are connected by two bridges - between Ruse and Giurgiu and between Vidin and Calafat
