Bulgaria Expects To Beat 2008 Customs Revenue Plan by 4.7%

SOFIA (Bulgaria), October 6 (SeeNews) – Bulgaria’s customs agency said on Monday it hopes to collect 8.361 billion levs ($6.188 billion/4.559 billion euro) in customs revenue this year, 4.7% higher than planned,  basing its forecast on good performance in the first nine months of the year.

The agency collected 6.266 billion levs revenue through September, 279 million levs above plan and 1.146 billion levs up on the year, it said in a statement. It did not provide revenue figures for the whole of 2007.

Bulgaria, which joined the European Union in 2007, has scrapped customs duties on imports from the other members of the bloc and has revised the method of calculation of customs revenue to reflect the change.
