October 13 (SeeNews) - Bulgarian car dealers sold 20,279 new cars in the first nine months of the year, down 50.7% from the same period a year earlier, the country's car importers union, UIAB, said.
At the end of September, Toyota was the market leader with a 11.05% share, followed by Volkswagen with 9.52%, Opel with 9.15% and Peugeot with 8.62%, UIAB said in a statement issued on Monday.

New truck sales in the first nine months of the year decreased to 664 from 3,097 a year earlier. Mercedes topped the list with 297 trucks sold. Only 132 busses were sold through September versus 227 in the same period of 2008.

Sales of new cars in Bulgaria rose by 8.0% in 2008 to 53,812. The Black Sea country of 7.7 million people does not manufacture automobiles.
