September 11 (SeeNews) - Bulgarian car dealers sold 18,493 new cars in the first eight months of the year, down 50% from the same period a year earlier, the country's car importers union, UIAB, said.
At the end of August, Toyota was the market leader with a 11.13% share, followed by Volkswagen with 9.72%, Opel with 9.21% and Peugeot with 8.9%, UIAB said in a statement issued on Thursday.

New truck sales in the first eight months of the year decreased to 695 from 2,923 a year earlier. Mercedes topped the list with 284 trucks sold. Only 104 busses were sold through August versus 205 in the same period of 2008.

Sales of new cars in Bulgaria rose by 8.0% in 2008 to 53,812. The Black Sea country of 7.7 million people does not manufacture automobiles.
