Bucharest Bourse Indices Post Further Gains, Track Markets in Europe, Asia

September 7 (SeeNews) - The indices of the Bucharest Stock Exchange, BVB, took their cues from markets in European and Asia to open higher on Monday, keeping their upward momentum from the end of last week, brokers said.

The blue-chip BET index of the BVB rose 3.53% to 4,349.63 points, while the BET-FI, which tracks the country's five regional investment funds, the SIFs, jumped 4.76% to 22,442.72 points.

The composite BET-C index advanced 3.03% to 2,549.72 and the ROTX index of Romania's 15 most liquid stocks, a joint index of the BVB and the Vienna Stock Exchange, ended 3.84% higher at 9,227.98.

BVB's turnover rose to 30.8 million lei ($10.4 million/7.3 million euro), including 5.75 million lei worth of bonds, from 18.3 million lei on Friday. The number of traded shares, however, decreased to 53.3 million from 57.9 million on Friday.

SIF 5 Oltenia surged 5.41% to 1.17 lei in the day's largest turnover of 6.2 million lei. SIF 2 Moldova jumped 6.12% to 1.04 lei on deals worth 4.7 million lei, Monday’s second largest turnover. SIF 3 Transilvania ended up 4.0% at 0.65 lei in a 2.8 million lei turnover, the session’s third largest.

Blue-chip lender BRD appreciated by 5.79% to 12.8 lei in a turnover of 2.1 million lei, while the bourse's other blue-chip bank, Banca Transilvania, was up 1.9% to 1.61 lei in 1.4 million lei turnover. Austria’s Erste Bank gained 4.29% to 126.4 lei in turnover of 834,000 lei.

SIF 1 Banat Crisana climbed 3.92% to 1.06 lei in turnover of 1.7 million lei. SIF 4 Muntenia jumped 4.55% to 0.69 lei in deals worth 1.1 million lei.

Blue-chip oil and gas group Petrom picked up 4.71% to 0.267 lei in deals worth 805,000 lei, while blue-chip gas transmission company Transgaz advanced 1.92% to 154.0 lei in a 719,000 lei turnover.

The BET-XT index, which tracks the 25 most liquid companies on the bourse, including the SIFs, added 3.84% to 426.25 points. The BET-NG, which includes companies from the energy sector and utilities, climbed 2.3% to 548.30 points.

Rasdaq-C, the composite index of the over-the-counter market RASDAQ, rose 0.55% to 2,111.79. Turnover on the RASDAQ increased to 1.1 million lei from 761,000 lei on Friday.
