BUCHAREST (Romania), September 3 (SeeNews) – The indices of the Bucharest Stock Exchange, BVB, rebounded on Thursday amid lower liquidity as investors opted to play it safe, brokers said.

Bucharest Bourse Indices Bounce Back in Lower Liquidity

The blue-chip BET index of the BVB rose 1.3% to 4,095.67 points, while the BET-FI, which tracks the country's five regional investment funds, the SIFs, gained 2.17% to 20,828.78 points.

The composite BET-C index advanced 1.37% to 2,425.43 and the ROTX index of Romania's 15 most liquid stocks, a joint index of the BVB and the Vienna Stock Exchange, ended 1.56% higher at 8,660.54.

“The rebound was expected following the run of three negative closes. I’d say there is enthusiasm among investors, but they are treading cautiously and keeping an eye on the international markets,” one broker told SeeNews.

BVB's turnover fell to 38.3 million lei ($12.9 million/9.0 million euro), including 24.4 million lei worth of bonds, from 56.7 million lei on Wednesday. The number of traded shares decreased to 23.3 million from 60.8 million on Wednesday.

SIF 5 Oltenia closed 2.8% higher at 1.1 lei in the day's largest turnover of 3.3 million lei. Blue-chip lender BRD climbed 2.63% to 11.7 lei on deals worth 2.5 million lei, Thursday’s second largest turnover.

The bourse's other blue-chip bank, Banca Transilvania, ended unchanged at 1.54 lei in a 1.8 million turnover, the session’s third largest. Austria’s Erste Bank gained 2.24% to 118.6 lei in turnover of 498,000 lei.

Blue-chip drug maker Biofarm appreciated by 2.39% to 0.214 lei in a turnover of 335,000 lei. Blue-chip oil refinery Rompetrol Rafinare was up 1.25% to 0.0486 lei in 343,000 lei turnover.

SIF 3 Transilvania climbed 3.45% to 0.6 lei in turnover of 903,000 lei. SIF 2 Moldova rose 1.62% to 0.94 lei in deals worth 1.2 million lei.

SIF 4 Muntenia picked up 1.56% to 0.65 lei in deals worth 616,000 lei, while SIF 1 Banat Crisana advanced 1.03% to 0.985 lei in a 749,000 lei turnover.

The BET-XT index, which tracks the 25 most liquid companies on the bourse, including the SIFs, bounced back 1.57% to 399.78 points. The BET-NG, which includes companies from the energy sector and utilities, climbed 1.18% to 524.63 points.

Rasdaq-C, the composite index of the over-the-counter market RASDAQ, shed 0.14% to 2,055.36. Turnover on the RASDAQ rose slightly to 1.87 million lei from 1.8 million lei on Wednesday.
