November 29 (SeeNews) - The transport ministry of Bosnia and Herzegovina's Sarajevo canton said it has signed a deal with a consortium made of local telecommunication companies BS Telecom and BH Telecom for the implementation of a 9.5 million euro ($10.4 million) project to introduce an adaptive traffic management system in the capital.

The system will use modern sensor equipment for real-time traffic monitoring which will facilitate traffic infrastructure planning and develop an algorithm for dynamic traffic light management, the cantonal transport ministry said in a press release earlier this week.

The project is expected to reduce traffic congestion, increase traffic safety and lower air pollution.

It is financed through a loan from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).

The Sarajevo Canton is one of ten cantons that form Bosnia's Federation, one of the autonomous entities that make up Bosnia. The other one is the Serb Republic.
