SARAJEVO (Bosnia and Herzegovina), December 27 (SeeNews) – The maize crop in Bosnia's Muslim-Croat Federation fell 29.5% to 143,329 tonnes in 2012, the entity's Statistics Office said on Thursday.

Bosnia's Federation maize output falls 29.5% in 2012

Due to a prolonged drought followed by high temperatures, crop yields and fruit production in the Federation recorded a significant decline this year, the office said in a statement.

Soybean output rose by 16.2% to 2,313 tonnes due to an increase in sown area this year while tobacco production fell by 37.3% to 373 tonnes.

Potato production dropped by 24.9% to 176,308 tonnes in 2012.

The apple crop fell 45.7% to 15,751 tonnes while the grape crop rose by 23.7% to 22,973 tonnes.

The Federation is one of the two autonomous parts forming Bosnia and Herzegovina. The other one is the Serb Republic.
