Bosnia's Federation maize output falls 21% in 2014

SARAJEVO (Bosnia and Herzegovina), December 25 (SeeNews) – The maize crop in Bosnia's Muslim-Croat Federation declined by 21.1% to 179,700 tonnes in 2014 while the yield was 4.1 tonnes per hectare (ha), the entity's statistics office said on Thursday.

A total of 43,700 ha in maize area were harvested in 2014, the statistics office said in a statement.

Due to adverse weather conditions, fruit and grape production in the Federation this year also recorded a significant decline compared to 2013.

Tobacco production fell 19.4% to 418 tonnes in 2014, soybean output declined by 64% to 1,240 tonnes and potato production decreased by 25.3% to 166,000 tonnes.

The Federation is one of the two autonomous entities forming Bosnia and Herzegovina. The other one is the Serb Republic.
