Bosnia's 2008 Trade Gap Widens 20.3% to 4.9 Bln Euro

January 22 (SeeNews) - Bosnia's trade deficit rose by 20.3% to 9.574 billion marka ($6.372/4.895 billion euro) last year, as imports rose faster than exports, the Bosnian Statistics Agency said on Thursday.

In 2007, Bosnia’s trade gap widened by 27.9% to 7.962 billion marka.

Bosnia's 2008 exports rose by 13.1% to 6.712 billion marka, while imports increased by 17.2% to 16.286 billion marka, the statistics office said in a statement posted on its website (www.bhas.ba).

The Bosnian marka is pegged against the euro under a currency board system. The fixed exchange rate under the system is 1.95583 marka per euro.
