December 16 (SeeNews) - Supermarket retailer Billa Bulgaria, part of Germany's REWE Group, said that it opened its second store in the southern town of Smolyan, near the Pamporovo ski resort, after investing over 2 million levs ($1.1 million/1.02 million euro) in the project.
The store covers an area of 1,300 sq m located at Retail Park Smolyan, with an indoor shopping area of 1,000 sq m, Billa Bulgaria said in a statement on Thursday.
The opening of the new store is part of the supermarket chain operator's strategy to boost its presence in small and mid-sized towns across Bulgaria.
Since October, Billa Bulgaria has opened new stores in Pernik, Sliven and Karlovo as well as its 55th store in the capital Sofia.
Billa employs over 4,500 people in Bulgaria and has opened nearly 150 stores since entering the local market in 2000. The company said in October that it plans to have invested a total of 32 million levs in nine new stores across Bulgaria by the end of 2022.
