February 26 (SeeNews) - Albanian energy company Vega Solar said it has signed a memorandum of understanding with an unnamed Indian investor for the construction of the first lithium-ion battery factory in the Balkan country.
The plant, whose construction is expected to begin within the next two years, is set to produce 100 MW of batteries per year, Vega Solar CEO Bruno Papaj said, as seen in LinkedIn video published last week.
Lithium-ion batteries are renowned for their high energy density, long cycle life, and lightweight design.
A SeeNews email to Vega Solar seeking further investment details and specifics of the production plant went unanswered by the time of this publication.
Vega Solar, established in 2018, specialises in the installation of rooftop solar arrays. Last year, the company told SeeNews it had redirected its efforts towards the development of large renewable energy projects.
