TIRANA (Albania), December 14 (SeeNews) – Albania’s population has shrunken by 8.0% to 2.82 million people since 2001, final data from a census conducted last year indicated.

Albania’s population falls to 2.8 mln in 2011 – final census data

A total of 53.5% of the country’s population lives in cities and 46.5% in rural areas, the Albanian statistics institute, INSTAT, said on Thursday.

For the first time in the census history of Albania, urban population exceeds rural.

Albanian families had an average of 3.9 members in 2011, down from 4.2 ten years ago. Families numbered 722,262 in 2011.
