Albania’s energy output drops 19% in 2023

February 21 (SeeNews) - Albania's energy output fell by 19% in 2023 to 5,692 GWh, the country’s energy regulator ERE said, quoting preliminary data.

Hydro power stations run by state-owned energy operator Kesh generated 3,895 GWh, a 1.2% increase from 2022, the regulator said in a statement last week.

On the renewable energy front, photovoltaic plants generated some 80.9 GWh during 2023, from 50.1 GWh in 2022.

Energy consumption slightly declined by some 0.6% to 7,875 GWh.

Albania’s energy exports amounted to 2,841 GWh, while imports reached 1,921 GWh, with the energy balance coming at a surplus of 920 GWh.

In 2022, Albania’s energy output dropped to 7,002 GWh from a record-high 8,415 GWh in 2021.
