Albania's Aug trade gap widens 0.4% m/m, down 13.8% y/y

TIRANA (Albania), September 24 (SeeNews) – Albania’s trade deficit widened by a monthly 0.4% to 28.2 billion leks ($260.9 million/202.2 million euro) in August and was down 13.8% on the year, the country’s statistics institute, INSTAT, said on Monday.

Albania’s exports rose by 26.9% on the year to 17.1 billion leks in August while imports fell 1.9% to 45.3 billion leks, INSTAT said in a statement.

On a monthly basis, exports fell 12.7% while imports decreased 5.0%.

Albania's biggest foreign market was the European Union, accounting for 62.6 % of the county's trade turnover in August.

Italy and Greece remained Albania's main trading partners, accounting for 33.1% and 7.1% respectively, of the country’s foreign trade turnover in August.

The country’s exports to Austria, Germany, Kosovo, Macedonia, and the United States registered an increase in August, as did imports from Austria, Bulgaria, Germany, China and Turkey.
