Albania Sept trade gap shrinks 2.4% m/m, down 2.8% y/y

TIRANA (Albania), October 24 (SeeNews) – Albania’s trade deficit shrank by a monthly 2.4% to 27.6 billion leks ($255.8 million/197.6 million euro) in September and was down 2.8% on the year, the country’s statistics institute, INSTAT, said on Wednesday.

Albania’s exports rose by 11.4% on the year to 18.9 billion leks in September while imports increased 2.5% to 46.5 billion leks, INSTAT said in a statement.

On a monthly basis, exports rose 8.6% and imports grew 1.8%.

Albania's biggest foreign market was the European Union, accounting for 63.4% of the county's trade turnover in September.

Italy and Greece remained Albania's main trading partners, accounting for 34.4% and 7.1% of the country’s foreign trade turnover in September.

The country’s exports to Germany, Italy, Croatia, the U.S. and Spain registered an increase in September as did imports from Austria, Greece, Italy, Kosovo and Russia.
