May 24 (SeeNews) - Albania’s infrastructure ministry said it has opened a tender for a 15-month contract for consultancy services to adapt the country’s electronic communications regulations to EU legislation in the area of fifth-generation (5G) cellular network technology, with a budget estimated at 750,000 euro ($811,000).
The consultant is required to draft sub-legal acts and regulations as per EU directives, design strategies and technical steps to ensure that 5G networks in Albania are secure and resilient, and improve institutional capacities at the levels of central and local government, the ministry said in a tender notice earlier this week. The project is financed through the EU’s pre-accession assistance programme 2021-2027.
The 5G network isn’t yet available for cellular internet users in Albania. In early March, Albania’s electronic and postal communications authority, AKEP, said two local telecommunication companies had expressed interest to start providing 5G services for the first time in the country.
Offers for the tender can be submitted until June 20.
