May 29 (SeeNews) - The Albanian Development Fund (ADF) said on Wednesday it has opened tender procedures for the implementation of a project aimed at protecting from erosion the northern embankment of the Karavasta Lagoon in western Albania.

Albania opens tender for lagoon embankment works

Budget for the contract is estimated at 144 million leks ($1.5 million/1.4 million euro), ADF said in a tender notice.

Prospective bidders must be able to conduct topographic measurements, install sand-filled geotextile mattresses to protect the embankment from water, build a 34-metre wooden bridge and two 17-metre bridges to allow water flow, and set up three observation points. All works should be completed within a year.

The Karavasta Lagoon is situated in the Divjake municipality, separated from the Adriatic Sea by a strip of land, and is part of a national park protected under the international wetland treaty of Ramsar.

Offers can be submitted until June 14.
