June 11 (SeeNews) - Albania’s power grid operator OSSH said on Tuesday it has opened tender procedures for the construction of a new substation which will supply electricity to an upcoming airport in the southern coastal city of Vlora, under a budget estimated at 427 million leks ($4.56 million/4.25 million euro).
Potential bidders must be able to build the substation in the village of Akerni with three voltage levels: 110, 35, and 20 kilovolts (kV), as well as a new 35 kV power line to link the substation with the airport, within 14 months, OSSH said in a tender notice.
Offers for the tender can be submitted until June 26, OSSH noted.
A consortium led by Swiss-based Mabco Constructions, a subsidiary of Mabetex Group, which also comprises Turkish company YDA Group and Kosovo-based 2A Group, started building the airport in 2021 under a 103.9-million-euro contract for its construction, operation and maintenance.
The airport is expected to begin operation in March 2025, Albanian infrastructure minister Belinda Balluku said in November.
The airport will also be supplied by an existing substation in the Mifol village, through an upcoming 35-kV power line.
