Albania, EU inaugurate 4.0 mln euro detention centre in Berat

TIRANA (Albania), December 17, (SeeNews) – Albania and the European Union have inaugurated a 4.0 million euro ($5.0 million) pre-trial detention centre in Berat, the delegation of the European Union to Albania said.

The centre was built with a grant from the EU's Instrument of Pre-Accession (IPA) 2011 Programme, the delegation of the European Union to Albania said in a statement posted on its website on Tuesday.

"Strengthening the capacity of the Albanian Judicial and Penitentiary System, in accordance with EU and international standards, as a component of the judiciary reform, is one of the key priorities of the EU on which progress must be made in view to accession," the delegation said in the statement.
