February 20 (SeeNews) - Flag carrier Air Serbia said on Tuesday that is terminating its partnership based on a short-term wet lease with Greece's Marathon Airlines after an aircraft operated by the Greek carrier on behalf of Air Serbia was damaged.
No further Air Serbia flights will be operated by the said Greek company’s aircraft, with flights that should have been operated by Marathon Airlines now to be operated by other aircraft in the fleet to maintain traffic continuity, Air Serbia said in a LinkedIn post.
According to local media reports, an Embraer E195 operating on February 18 a flight between the Serbian capital Belgrade and Dusseldorf in Germany, hit an antenna during takeoff and had to make an emergency return. No passengers or crew members were injured, but the aircraft sustained significant damage to the fuselage, wing box and stabilizer.
Air Serbia has been cooperating with Marathon Airlines since June 2023 based on a short-term wet-lease deal.
