After the documents were inked, a joint press conference was told the high-speed railway project is now certain and that it would benefit the countries of Central and Eastern Europe (CEE), the EU, and overall cooperation between China and this part of the world, the government said in a statement issued after the signing ceremony at the Third Meeting of the Heads of Government of China and CEE Countries underway in Belgrade.

The Belgrade-Budapest high-speed railway will contribute not only to the development of industry and railways, but also enable greater connectivity with Hungary, Macedonia, and much faster transportation of passengers and goods, Serbian prime minister Aleksandar Vucic said in the statement.

With the implementation of the project - expected to take two years, the travel time between Budapest and Belgrade would be shortened from eight to 2.4 hours.
