September 17 (SeeNews) - Bulgaria's government said on Tuesday that Zurich-headquartered power and automation company ABB has opened a new production plant in the town of Petrich - its fifth in the country.
The new plant, ABB's second in Petrich, will produce power transmission equipment, the government said in a statement.
ABB will employ 800 people at the new plant in Petrich.
Earlier this month, ABB said that it has also completed the modernisation of its plant in Sevlievo.
ABB Bulgaria currently has five production bases and a turbocharger service centre. It employs over 2,800 people in the country. ABB’s first production unit in Petrich was built in 1996 on a total area of 5,000 sq.m. It produces low-voltage control products and DIN rail mounted products.
ABB Bulgaria booked sales of 287.1 million levs ($162.5 million/146.8 million euro) last year and posted a net profit of 16.7 million levs.
