April 17 (SeeNews) - A1 Bulgaria's earnings before interest and taxes, amortisation and depreciation (EBITDA) increased by an annual 12.6% to 77 million euro ($81.9 million) in the first quarter of 2024, driven by service revenue growth, parent company A1 Telekom Austria Group said.

A1 Bulgaria boosts Q1 EBITDA 13% y/y on higher service revenue

The Bulgarian company's total revenue in January-March climbed by 7.4% on the year to 177 million euro, the telecoms operator said in an earnings update published on Tuesday. Of that, 144 million euro were generated by services, up 12.6% in annual terms.

Mobile service revenue grew by 6.5% year-on-year, supported by value-protecting pricing measures and upselling, while fixed-line service revenue leapt by 23%. A1 Bulgaria implemented a 9.5% tariff increase in April 2024 in response to inflation, it said.

Despite a slight decline in mobile subscriber numbers following business segment optimisations, fixed revenue-generating units (RGUs) rose as a result of increased broadband and TV subscribers.

The company's core operating expenses widened, primarily driven by revenue-related and workforce costs.

A1's international operations also include Belarus, Croatia, Serbia, Slovenia and North Macedonia.
