Oct 23, 1997 – State-run Societatea Nationala a Petrolului Petrom SA is established in the capital of Romania, Bucharest.
1998 – The company opens branches in Hungary, Azerbaijan and Moldova.
1999 – Petrom SA discovers the largest Romanian oilfield on the Black Sea. It becomes the owner of the Tasbulat, Turkmenoy, and Aktas oil fields in Kazakhstan.
2000 - The company acquires a 95% stake in Kazakhstan-based oil company Oztyurk Munai LLP.
Sept 3, 2001 – Petrom SA lists on the Bucharest Stock Exchange.
July 23, 2004 – The Romanian Privatisation Authority (AVAS) sells 33.34% in Petrom SA to OMV AG, Austria for EUR 668.815 mln.
Dec 14, 2004 – OMV AG becomes the majority shareholder in Petrom SA with a 51% stake.
Dec 15, 2004 – The company changes its name to Societatea Comerciala Petrom SA from Societatea Nationala a Petrolului Petrom SA.
January 2006 - Petrom SA acquires a 99.9% stakes in three OMV companies: OMV Mineraloel Romania SRL, OMV Bulgaria OOD and OMV Jugoslavija DOO (later renamed to OMV Srbija DOO), in a deal worth EUR 234.4 mln.
September 2006 - The company acquires a 74.9% stake in Cyprus-based Ring Oil Holding & Trading Ltd.
April 2007 - The company sells its entire 95% stake in Oztyurk Munai LLP.
July 2007 - Romanian investment fund Fondul Proprietatea SA raises its stake in Petrom SA to 20.64%, after the transfer of 10.22% from AVAS.
September 2007 - Petrom SA signs a EUR 328.5 mln contract for the acquisition of the oil service activities of Romania’s Petromservice.
October 2008 - Petrom SA acquires an additional stake of 20.87% in Petrom Aviation SA and increases its stake in the company to 69.37%.
January 2009 - The company changes its name to OMV Petrom SA from Petrom SA.
December 2009 - OMV Petrom SA sells the petrochemical assets of its Arpechim refinery to Romanian state-owned chemicals company Oltchim SA for EUR 13 mln.
April 2010 - OMV Petrom SA acquires a 100% stake in Romania-based S.C. Wind Power Park SRL for EUR 100 mln and later changes its name to OMV Petrom Wind Power SRL.
September 2010 - OMV Petrom SA sold exploration assets in Russia to its minority partner Mineral and Bio Oil Fuels Limited (MBO).
June 2012 - OMV Petrom SA sells its liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) business to local LPG distributor Crimbo Gas International SRL.
July 2013 - OMV Petrom SA sells its Romanian gas distribution subsidiary Petrom Distributie Gaze SRL to local Ligatne SRL.
January 2014 - OMV Petrom SA spins off its support services business by setting up a new company, OMV Petrom Global Solutions SRL (OPGS).
July 2014 - OMV Petrom SA sells its 28.59% stake in local gas distributor Congaz SA to GDF SUEZ Energy Romania.
