July 14 (SeeNews) - SOF Connect, the concessionaire of Bulgaria's Sofia Airport, said on Thursday that it is launching a procurement process to develop a new baggage-handling system with a view to increasing capacity and efficiency at its larger Terminal 2.
SOF Connect is inviting expressions of interest covering the design, manufacture, supply, installation and commissioning of the new system, the airport operator said in a press release.
Bids are invited to be tabled until July 15.
The winner will be required to provide system maintenance for a period of ten years, SOF Connect added.
The new baggage system, which will correspond to EU standards and will serve both departure and arrival areas, will enable smart and online check-ins, with additional baggage reclaim belts in the arrivals area to be installed.
This is the flagship project, part of an overhaul of the entire airport which will provide more check-in counters, enhanced security checks, brand new retail spaces, the redevelopment of dining and entertainment areas as well as a major refurbishment of the airport car park, SOF Connect said.
Last month, SOF Connect said that it will invest over 140 million levs ($71.6 million/71.6 million euro) in airport facilities upgrades over the first five years of its contract, which was awarded in 2020, with Terminal 2 taking over the bulk of flights currently operated by the older Terminal 1.
