In the beginning of June, the pallet deliveries in Bulgaria came back to the pre-COVID 19 crisis levels, according to the leader in this segment of the logistics market in Bulgaria – TRANSPRESS. The company has over 70 000 pallet deliveries on an average monthly basis. According to company analysis the spike in the pallet shipments was due to the start of the summer holidays season and resumption of the productions in various sectors. Among the important factors are also the re-activation of the construction, chemical and the automotive industries, paper and production of stationary materials.

“The pallet deliveries are not only key product offering for the transportation companies, but they are an indicative segment for the general condition of the economy. The re-establishment of the pre-crisis levels of shipments can be explained with the activation of a lot of economic sectors.”, comments Veselin Stoyanov, CEO, TRANSPRESS.

According to internal analysis, for the first 5 months of the year the pallet shipments increased at a year- on-year basis. Even at the midst of the Corona virus crisis, the market leader, TRANSPRESS, reported 12% increase in comparison to 2019.

"Contrary to the negative expectations we had only a week with results below those of 2019. Nevertheless, one can see the slowing down in comparison to the first 3 months of 2020, when the moving forces in market were highly specific – deliveries of sanitizers, fast moving consumer goods and electronics. A key market driver during the lockdown was the season boost for the agricultural producers and the high transport demand for related goods,” explains Stoyanov.

During the crisis, TRANSPRESS reported sharp drop in the deliveries from the textile and luxury goods industries. The biggest challenges in the day-to-day operational activities were to maintain the constant flow of the shipments and the quality of the service.

“Thanks to our domestic warehouse network and international partnership with Dachser we have access to over 400 cross-docking warehouses across Europe and therefore we continued to function efficiently at the midst of the crisis. We were the only Bulgarian company that could service the routes to Italy amid the crisis. Despite the challenges we maintained our service level quality at 99,15% - on time deliveries,” said Veselin Stoyanov. “Key factor for our resilience were the new technologies and AI software that we use for planning. All of this together with the help of our front-line heroes, saved us the top market positions,” he added.

The analysis of TRANSPRESS shows that there is no significant change in the price level of pallet shipments for 2020, in comparison to 2019. This is due to two important factors, the drop down of the petrol prices and the introduction of the new TOLL taxes.
