July 10 (SeeNews) - Wizz Air targets growth of 49% of its operations in 2018 from its base in Iasi, Romania where he added a second aircraft and launched seven new routes, the Hungarian low-cost carrier said.
The new aircraft brings total investment in the Iasi base to over $200 million (170 million euro) and is stimulating the local job market, employing a local team of more than 70 aviation professionals and supporting over 280 jobs on a yearly basis in the region in the affiliated industries, Wizz Air said in a statement on Monday.
The new 180-seat Airbus A320 aircraft will support the operations of the newest services available from Iasi to Billund, Brussels Charleroi, Dortmund, Eindhoven, Malmo, Paris Beauvais and Thessaloniki, as well the increased frequencies to two popular destinations from Iasi: Milan Bergamo and Tel-Aviv.
"In total, Wizz schedule will have 20 additional weekly flights departing from Iasi," the company said.
More than 190,000 passengers travelled on board of the airline’s flights from Iasi in the first half of 2018, up 15% year-on-year.
"The development underlines our commitment to the Moldava region by bringing truly affordable opportunities and doubling our local team," Wizz Air acting head of corporate communications, Sorina Ratz, said.
Wizz Air is offering now 141 routes to 22 countries across Europe from 10 Romanian airports.
Year-to-date, Wizz Air has already announced 21 new routes in Romania.
Wizz Air is operating in Romania with a young fleet of 25 aircraft including 5 new 230-seat Airbus A321, and the team currently working across the country is exceeding 1,000 local employees.
