May 11 (SeeNews) - The Serbian government is seeking a strategic partner to develop a minimum of five solar photovoltaic (PV) power plants with a total capacity of 1GW and at least 200MW of battery storage capacity, local media reported.
The power plants and batteries will be handed over to state-owned power utility Elektroprivreda Srbije (EPS) under a turn-key contract, news provider Ekapija reported on Tuesday.

The partner will decide on the locations of the solar arrays and battery systems, as well as the number and the installed power of each plant.
The electricity generated by the solar power plants and the services realized through the battery systems will be incorporated into the operating plans of EPS. The project has a deadline of four to five years, and the agreement with the strategic partner will be signed for a period of six to seven years.
The country has so far installed 50 MW of solar power capacity, according to data of the Association Renewable Energy Sources of Serbia.
