BUCHAREST (Romania), December 10 (SeeNews) – Bucharest stock indices rebounded on Thursday in moderate volumes and calm trading, brokers said.
The blue-chip BET index of the Bucharest Stock Exchange, BVB, gained 2.18% to 4,675.84 points. The BET-FI, which tracks the country’s five regional investment funds SIFs, rose 0.92% to 23,746.69 points.
The composite BET-C index closed 0.9% higher to 2,710.39. The ROTX index of Romania's 15 most liquid stocks, a joint index of the BVB and the Vienna Stock Exchange, added 1.3% to 9,758.21.
"Things calmed down a bit after the turbulence on the market in the previous days triggered by the political situation in the context of the presidential elections,” one broker told SeeNews.
Sunday's run-off vote for Romanian president failed to break a months-old political deadlock that has put key reforms at risk, making investors cautious.
BVB's turnover fell to 17 million lei ($5.9 million/4.0 million euro) from 39.5 million lei on Wednesday. The volume of traded shares decreased to 40.1 million from 57 million on Wednesday.
SIF 5 Oltenia appreciated by 0.8% to 1.26 lei in the day's largest turnover of 3.0 million lei. Blue-chip lender Banca Transilvania climbed 2.43% to 2.11 lei on deals worth a total of 2.7 million lei, Thursday’s second highest turnover. SIF 2 Moldova ended 1.8% up at 1.13 lei in the session’s third largest turnover of 2.1 million lei.
Blue-chip oil refinery Rompetrol Rafinare jumped by 6.39% to 0.0599 lei in deals worth 1.1 million lei. “The stock jumped as Romapetrol [Group] managed to submit on time its second independent valuation of Rompetrol Rafinare prior to making a buyout bid for it," the broker said.
Blue-chip oil and gas group OMV Petrom closed unchanged at 0.252 lei in 613,000 lei turnover. SIF 1 Banat Crisana also ended flat at 1.14 lei in deals worth 619,000 lei, while SIF 3 Transilvania added 0.75% to 0.675 lei in 652,000 lei turnover.
The other blue-chip bank, BRD, ended 1.52% higher at 13.4 lei in deals worth 589,000 lei, while blue-chip gas transmission firm Transgaz advanced by 1.94% to 158 lei in deals worth a total of 181,000 lei.
The BET-XT index, which tracks the 25 most liquid companies on the bourse, including the SIFs, ended up 1.24% at 460.85 points. The BET-NG, which includes companies from the energy sector and utilities, jumped 2.52% to 586.18 points.
Rasdaq-C, the composite index of the over-the-counter market RASDAQ, rose 0.47% to 2,229.31. Turnover on the RASDAQ decreased to 431,000 lei from 1.5 million lei on Wednesday.
