November 17 (SeeNews) - Irish fashion retailer Primark announced on Thursday that it will open its first store in Romania on December 15 and plans to inaugurate a second one in 2023.
The 3,735 sq m flagship store will be located in Bucharest's ParkLake Shopping Centre and will employ 290, Primark said in a press release.
The store marks the international retailer’s entry on its 15th market and solidifies its expansion plans in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE), where it is already present in Poland, the Czech Republic and Slovenia.
"We have ambitious growth plans in CEE and today’s announcement is our first step in Romania – with more to follow," Maciej Podwojski, Head of Sales for Central Eastern Europe at Primark said.
The fashion retailer plans to open a second Bucharest store in AFI Cotroceni Shopping Centre next year, bringing its CEE store footprint to 12 stores across five markets.
Primark also revealed plans to open three additional stores in Poland and enter its 16th market in the Slovakian capital of Bratislava.
Primark first announced its entry into the Romanian market in January 2022.
Founded in Ireland in 1969 under the Penneys brand, Primark currently has over 400 stores across Europe and the US, and employs more than 70,000 people.
