June 1 (SeeNews) - Kosovo's insurance companies posted a combined net profit of 900,000 euro ($1 million) in the first four months of 2017, flattish compared to the profit recorded a year earlier, figures from the central bank showed.
Kosovo insurers' gross written premiums added 2.1% on the year to 19.4 million euro in January-April, according to data published by the central bank on Wednesday.
Gross written premiums from the non-life insurance increased 1.6% on the year to 18.7 million euro in January-April, while life-insurance premiums declined 14.3% to 600,000 euro.
Total gross claims paid in the first four months of 2017 rose 32.9% year-on-year to 11.3 million euro.
The assets held by Kosovo insurance companies increased 5.3% to 165 million euro as of end-April.
Kosovo insurers ended 2016 with a combined net loss of 23.9 million euro, more than three times higher than the loss of 7.7 million euro in 2015.
The statistics comprises data for 15 insurance companies.
