PODGORICA (Montenegro), November 29 (SeeNews) – Montenegro's government said on Thursday it has granted a 30-year concession contract for the operation of the Bijela shipyard to a consortium of local luxury marina operator Adriatic Marinas and Dutch-based Damen Shipyards Group.
The consortium plans to invest 20 million euro ($22.7 million) in the development of the shipyard on the Adriatic coast in the next three years, the government said in a Twitter post.
The partners plan to build a facility for repair of luxury yachts on the premises of the Bijela shipyard, which will allow the opening of new jobs and will supplement the nautical tourism offer of Montenegro, the government said in a statement earlier this year.
In February 2016, Montenegro's transport ministry said that Adriatic Marina, which operates the Porto Montenegro marina and yachting complex, and Damen Group have placed the sole bid in a tender for a 30-year concession for the commercial use of the Bijela shipyard. The concessionaire will obtain the rights over an area of 108,294 sq m within the Bijela port, including an operational quay and piers, as well as 218,077 sq m of anchorages, the ministry said at the time.
Damen Group operates 33 shipyards worldwide. Porto Montenegro is the owner of a full-service marina located in the Bay of Kotor.
