December 11 (SeeNews) - Croatia's Interior Ministry said late on Friday that former Prime Minister Ivo Sanader was arrested in Austria on abuse of power charges.
“The Croatian police received by phone information from the Austrian police that, based on an international warrant, Ivo Sanader was arrested today, December 10, 2010, at 1550 local time (1450 GMT) in the area of Salzburg,” the ministry said in a statement.
A day earlier, the Croatian parliament stripped Sanader of immunity from prosecution, and the country's anti-corruption and organised crime office USKOK issued an international warrant for his arrest on corruption and power abuse charges. Hours earlier, Sanader left the country.
Sanader resigned in July last year.
