March 15 (SeeNews) - Foreign direct investment (FDI) in Romania fell to 583 million euro ($634.9 million) in January, from 596 million euro in the same period last year, the country's central bank said on Friday.
Net equity investment, including the estimated net reinvestment of earnings, totalled 697 million euro in the first month of the year, while net intercompany lending stood at a negative 114 million euro, the central bank said in a balance of payments report, citing provisional data.
In 2023, FDI in Romania totalled 6.587 billion euro, down 34%.
The number of new businesses with foreign capital established in 2023 in Romania decreased by 4.9% on the year to 7,368, according to data published by the Trade Office Registry.
