SOFIA (Bulgaria), December 17 (SeeNews) – Bulgaria will receive 75 million euro ($108 million) under the European Union's 2010 budget in the first installment of an additional 300 million euro compensation for the early closure of four reactors in its Kozloduy nuclear power plant, the European Parliament said.
The EU's general budget for the financial year 2010, adopted on second reading vote on Thursday will be 141.4 billion euro in commitments and 122.9 billion euro in payments. The payments figure represents 1.04% of EU's gross national income, the European Parliament (EP) said in a statement on Thursday.
Bulgaria will receive 75 million euro a year in the next four years in additional compensation for the closure of four reactors in its Kozloduy nuclear power plant. The additional 300 million euro compensation package was granted to Bulgaria by the European Commission earlier this year. The country has already received 550 million euro from the EU for the decommissioning of the Soviet-made reactors which it closed early to address EU's nuclear safety concerns.
