December 29 (SeeNews) - The Croatian Hydrocarbons Agency said it has called tender for geothermal water exploration for energy purposes at six locations, expecting at least 45 million euro ($48 million) investments in domestic geothermal projects in the next five years.
Investors have been offered to prospect an overall area of more than 200 square kilometres in four counties in eastern and northern Croatia – Medjimurje, Koprivnica-Krizevci, Virovitica-Podravina and Osijek-Baranja, the government agency said in a press release on Wednesday.

The potential for production of energy from geothermal sources in these areas has been detected earlier in drilling for oil and gas, which significantly reduces the risks and costs for future investors, it added.
The overall electricity production potential of these locations is estimated at 600,000 MWh per year, with the value of needed investments estimated at over 400 million euro.
The deadline for submitting bids in the tender is June 1, 2023.
