November 29 (SeeNews) - Airbus said it has signed a firm order for six new A220 passenger aircraft with state-controlled flag carrier Croatia Airlines [ZSE:CRAL].
“Croatia Airlines plans to lease an additional nine A220s, taking its total commitment for the type to 15,” the European aerospace manufacturer said in a press release.
The A220s will replace previous generation aircraft in Croatia Airlines' fleet, reducing operating costs and improving environmental efficiency and competitiveness.
The A220 is a clean sheet design and the only aircraft purpose-built for the 100 to 150-seat market segment, Airbus said.
Currently, the Croatian carrier operates an Airbus fleet of seven single-aisle aircraft from the A320 family.
The deal which was signed on Monday and envisages a complete renewal of Croatia Airlines' fleet with s single-type aircraft by 2026, Croatia Airlines said in a separate press release, without disclosing financial details of the order.
Earlier this month, the flag carrier said that the Croatian government it expected to increase its capital by 296 million kuna ($41 million/39 million euro) to 923.9 million kuna by subscribing 29.6 million kuna worth of new shares.
The company's shares last traded on the Zagreb Stock Exchange on October 14, when they closed flat at 35 kuna.
