April 1 (SeeNews) - Romania has confirmed a total of 2,460 coronavirus cases as of Wednesday, as the number of deaths reached 85, the health and interior ministries said.

At the same time, 252 people have recovered and have been discharged from hospital, according to a press release published by the emergency department under the interior and health ministries.

As of Wednesday, 12,345 people are in quarantine in Romania, while the condition of 122,174 people staying at home is being monitored.

A total of 26,609 tests were carried out across the country as of Wednesday.

Last week, state secretary Nelu Tataru was appointed as Romania's health minister after the previous one, Victor Costache resigned.

Since March 25, people can go out only for work or to buy food and medicine. Citizens over 65 years of age can leave their homes only between 11.00 a.m. and 13.00 p.m. and for an hour in the evening to walk their pets. They can also go to the doctor at any hour during the day.

The Romanian authorities declared a 30-day state of emergency on March 16 in order to be able to tackle the coronavirus disease outbreak more efficiently.
