January 23 (SeeNews) - Bulgarian companies Straplan and Stroyproject have submitted with the municipal authorities of Ruse, on the Danube, a project to overhaul the local airport if granted the right to operate it for ten years, the city government said.
Stroyproject owner Hristo Krusharski is prepared to invest up to 1.5 million levs ($835,200/766,900 euro) in the project by May, the municipality said in a statement on Friday.
If approved, the investment project will be conducted in three stages. The first phase involves the repair and reconstruction of a 1,799-metre runway, the construction of hangars for six airplanes, an overhaul of a passenger terminal, the construction of a cargo terminal, building an infrastructure for unmanned aircrafts, the repair of a fuel warehouse and the construction of a new light system.
The second stage covers the repair of a runaway 2,500 metres long and 45 metres wide and the construction of hangers for four aircrafts of the type Airbus A320 or Boing 737.
In the final stage, the investors plan to construct a new terminal with a capacity of 500 passengers and a new building for aircraft maintenance equipment. The last phase also involves the construction of additional hangers for maintenance of aircrafts of the type Airbus A320 or Boing 737.
Established in 1992, Stroyproject is a certified aviation operator with its own planes and aviation staff. Since 2020, the company has participated in several projects to combat hails and influence the weather.
Straplan was set up in 2008. Its main activity is consultancy and management of civil and military aviation projects. The company's owner, Antoni Tarnitsov, made a concession assessment of Ruse Airport in 2017.
